10/09/2008Kinesis
The usual bastards here at Genericus/CTI have decided to start up our own tabletop RPG system. This comes as a result of our increasing disappointment with our mainstay, the Marvel system, and its inflexibility and unrealistic facets. Our new system, which we've named Kinesis, will reward real-world knowledge and creativity above blind luck and good stats. Between the 5 people working on this there's at least 4 decades of gaming experience from both sides of the table, and a few of us have created or assisted in the heavy modification of other systems. This gives us the skill to back up these plans.

04/02/2007Treo!
I finally bit the $350 and got a Treo. Perhaps I don't need to be able to browse the internet with a phone. BUT I GOD DAMNED WELL WANT TO. ^_^ The thing works dandily. Plays music and video and whatnot. IE Mobile's ability to hump an entire web page into a 240x240 screen is functional, if not pretty. I do enjoy playing random sound clips during conversations. It's like having my own sound board. Now I just need to rig this thing so I can blog from it. Not that I ever would. .

I caught the midnight premiere here in Portland and this movie absolutely punished. It was even cooler than I expected, and that is a pretty high bar. The theater was as packed as one might expect. I came out with the afterglow only a truly great film can bestow. However, I have work in 3 hours, so I will regret this tomorrow. Or maybe not.

01/27/2007o.O what
This afternoon on my way home from work, I bought a used flash drive at a goodwill. Apparently they don't format drives they get at all, because it predictably contains a ton of personal data. Homework and the like, mainly. I gather the owner was a fairly savvy person who would have flattened it before donating it, so I have concluded that it was lost or stolen. Suchly, I dug an e-mail address out of the files on it and attempting contact. At the least I can tell them to be more careful! I also got a plastic Darth Vader helmet that has sound effects. Abusing this will amuse me greatly.
I go to that goodwill every day and rarely do I not find something good. posted @ 18:01:26 PST by Javid [Inspiration: Cheap shit]

05/08/2006Seriously, fuck people.
This is a recent e-mail conversation between me and my figure drawing teacher about a midterm drawing that's due today.
------------From: Genericus Sent: Wed 5/3/2006 10:15 PM To: Drake, Tommi Subject: First Finished Drawing
Does "Finished" include coloring? I may have missed/forgotten the full definition of what's expected on this one.

From: Drake, Tommi Sent: Fri 5/5/2006 To: Genericus Subject: RE: First Finished Drawing[Scanned]
Finished drawing is on good paper including a background and figures and is your choice of media. we have discussed exensively in class.
------------ I still have no idea if I have to color it or not. XD
This teacher has a history of being about as dense as a brick. She specifically called the local art supplier and told them what kind of paper to sell to us specifically for the project, then told us a whole different brand and size.. posted @ 03:55:18 PST by Javid [Inspiration: Morons.]

03/04/2006MEAD
Today me and some friends bottled a jug of mead that'd been sitting for some time.. I had nothing to do with the creation of this batch, but I did correctly assess that we didn't have enough bottles for 5 gallons of booze. (Note the two plastic 2 liters and the pickle jar hiding in back)
I operated the siphon and managed to get largely soaked in mead in short order. For my efforts helping bottle I was paid with the far right DP bottle and the far left wine bottle. The former was a chunk they were going to dump out, but I figured it could be salvaged with my ghettobrewing skills. I was also given a horn to drink it with, in the traditional norse manner; these guys are all Asatru followers, and we had a little ceremony about dedicating the batch to the gods when we dumped out the bottom 3 inches with the yeast and shit, it was pretty cool.

03/01/2006Sleeping pills breed the wierdest dreams.
Tonight I started experimenting with melatonin for my erratic sleep schedule. I took it at 11 PM and ended up tired enough to sleep at around midnight. During that time I managed one of the neatest dreams I've had and remembered recently. I was in a wal-mart parking lot with a .22 rifle (one I own in reality) and fighting two clones of Gary Busey, to defend the secret of teleportation. I incapacitated one by rolling a vending machine down a hill at it, getting its thumb stuck in the change slot and sending him running after it trying to unstick. I can't recall how I got rid of the other one, but I did. After that "fight" (I never actually shot anyone) I went towards the rear of the parking lot, where there were for some reason diningbooths like in a restaraunt. I found a magic 3 liter soda bottle that was somehow apparently linked with the secret of teleportation. I also ran into Erica, who could shapeshift into 2 liters of water and would actually travel in the magic 3 liter. (Maybe that was the secret) We messed with people a bit, I'd dump out 2 liters of water next to some random person and then confuse them as a person popped out. XD That was the extent of it.Yes, it was a 3 liter, and she was 2 liters. I distinctly remember her taking up 2/3 of the bottle.
I wish there were movies this crazy.. posted @ 03:50:14 PST by Javid [Inspiration: Generic Wal-Mart melatonin]

02/15/2006Yay for single awareness day.
You know what depresses me? Watching an older movie (in this case, Caddyshack, from 1980) and finding a girl actor in it extremely attractive, and then realizing that they were born in 1960 and are like 46 now. I mean, there's worse feelings, but that sucks.

01/21/2006Adventures in OS reinstallation
With the arrival of my new hard drive, I decided it was a good time to format and reinstall Windows. I went to boot up from the XP installer CD I had and found it was scratched. But wait! I had a Linux CD just lying around unloved. Surely I can install that, download a new windows XP ISO + image burner, reburn XP, and continue on my way, right?
Never underestimate how little help a linux support channel can be.
In any case, after several hours of talking to people who seemed annoyed that people are not magically born with every bit of knowledge to be had, I got my CD burned. Now I'm installing SP2, then doing the mass-update thing, before I put anything on it. x.x
Also, support guy: Don't tell me I should be grateful fr the "great free service" after randomly going idle for 2 hours in the middle of a question. If helping people bothers you so much, quit staffing a SUPPORT CHANNEL. posted @ 18:16:19 PST by Javid [Inspiration: morons]

01/20/2006Amusing, isn't it, how things work out..
In high school one semester, I decided it would be a good idea to take a foods class. I've always fancied myself an amatuer cook, and it did seem fun at first. I wound up stuck in a group with a guy that somewhat annoyed me and two girls that considered a Y chromosome and cooking abilities mutually exclusive. Obviously we got along greeeeeat. The first "free cooking friday" rolls around, so I pack in a half pount of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, a bottle of olive oil, a can of breadcrumbs, and three eggs, and make some breaded chicken cutlets. Annoying guy is absent, and the other two bring in a packet of beef ramen.A bit later I give the GED lab teacher a chunk of my chicken cutlets, and he ends up chasing me down later for the recipe. The master chefs had burnt their ramen and left the room in disgust.
Moral of the story: people are morons. One of those girls works the grill in my college's cafeteria now. I don't eat there. posted @ 02:45:20 PST by Javid [Inspiration: Well I was cooking some ramen and that memory popped up.]
